AFA's heavy promotion.
OneNewsNow.com has a bit of an advertisment going. It'll probably go after christmas, so I'll describe it: The banner takes up the entire upper part of the site, plus extending down both sides in two columns. High-visibility red, and on top of all that pinned by CSS so it stays in place when you scroll. They really want you to see that banner.
The banner is to promote Couragious, a movie the ad describes as 'this powerful film about five men who are encouraged to become Godly fathers.' But that isn't what I am entertained by. It's just some fluff story about how the power of faith makes everyone perfect and triumphant, but it's a Christmas movie - that's standard fare for those. Christmas movies are not expected to be about deep thought, and really even a Christian movie might be a welcome break from the parade of elves and snowmen.
There are but two entertaining things. First, is the timing. The ad is Christmas themed, yes. It even reads 'A Special AFA Christmas Offer' and bears the title 'Couragious for Christmas.' The left column urges readers to buy it for others as a Christmas gift. And yet, something here is wrong...
"Coming soon to DVD and Blu-Ray, January 17th 2012."
Oh.
They are advertising a Christmas movie, to buy as a Christmas gift... and it won't actually arrive until well into January.
FAIL
Well, guess they can't resist the sweet prospect of the Christmas shopping season - even if the movie isn't ready yet.
Even the ads attempt to look christmasy with it's red color theme and prominant featuring of 'Couragious for Christmas' at the top is misleading. A check of the movie's wikipedia page shows that it isn't actually a Christmas film at all - it isn't set in December, it isn't tied into Christmas themes. So the AFAs ad campaign is even more shameless than that. It's just a story of how a few vow to place Christ first in everything they do, and spend the read of the movie finding all their personal, professional and financial problems melt away before the power of faith.
